techniki77architects was founded in 1977 in Athens by Yannis and Mary Kourkoutas as a firm offering comprehensive architectural design and construction services across Greece. Initially specializing in residential architecture, the firm soon expanded its scope to include the design of hospitality projects, particularly resort hotels.
Over the course of its first decades, the firm designed and contributed to the construction of more than 50 hotel developments. These included resort complexes, conference and convention centers, serviced apartments, and suite hotels—many of which were built on major Greek islands such as Rhodes, Kos, and Leros—enhancing the tourism infrastructure of these destinations.
The firm's design vision and technical capabilities were significantly enriched by the addition of Vassilis Kourkoutas, Yannis Salesiotis, and Nikos Karampinis, who introduced innovative methodologies and technological advancements to the practice. Key areas of development included:
